Can you delete songs from iTunes Library without it removing the songs from the iPod?

I would like to save space on my computer, but every time I delete a song off the library in iTunes it removes the songs from my iPod. I wish I could just drag %26amp; drop songs like on the other MP3 players. Can you delete songs from iTunes Library without it removing the songs from the iPod?
You can

This is something apple doesnt stress enough and I dont understand why not since more people would rather use the manual mode than the sync.

When your ipod is connected to itunes in that main summary page of your ipod click manually manage music.

Now your ipod is in manual mode and nothing will be deleted or added until you direct it to.

Drag and drop songs from the itunes library to the ipods name.

Right click and delete songs from the main music list under the ipods name.

If it is in manual mode then you can delete whatever you want from itunes and it wont affect your ipod, but you might want a back up in case something happens to your ipod. I have all my music on an external hard drive.

If it is in manual mode you can also use that ipod on any other computer you want with any other itunes library you want and get music from other peoples computers. Can you delete songs from iTunes Library without it removing the songs from the iPod?
I got a free iPod Video from this site. All I had to do was sign up and complete a few simple online tasks, and that was it! Highly recommended. Can you delete songs from iTunes Library without it removing the songs from the iPod?
Absolutely. Just make sure you don't have the auto sync feature turned on.

Open your iTunes preferences and play with you settings.
