Is it possible to write my own socket library?

For educational purposes, i want to create my own "socket library".

So, instead using Microsoft's WinSock, i use my own.

I think i have the necessary knowledge of C\C++ and ASM.

Is it possible, has anyone tried this before?Is it possible to write my own socket library?
Possible, you have to read the specification of the network card to be able to communicate with its protocol.
